Waterford Elgin Pinot Noir

R295
This is the 8th vintage of our Elgin Pinot Noir. A pale colour, with floral and delicate wild cherry, elegant earthy and fynbos aromas which are complemented by maturation in old 300L Burgundian French oak.
In step with previous vintages, the 2017 wine offers floral and wild cherry notes. It shows off pure fruit and earthy notes complemented by classical pencil lead aromas. Wonderful, elegant texture and flavour profile, all rounded off with a well-balanced natural acidity.
Sourced from a single vineyard in the higher-lying area of Elgin. Cooler climate with more slate, sandstone and quartz soil types which drives a more elegant style and textured wine.

Single vineyard – The Waterford range is well known for terroir specific wines. In this case the Pinot Noir is carefully sourced from a single vineyard in Elgin, the best suited terroir for the growth of Pinot Noir, with a slightly cooler climate than Stellenbosch. Once the grapes are harvested, they are transported to Waterford Estate for vinification. A very natural approach is followed in order to best express the characteristics of the surroundings of the vineyards. When compared to previous vintages, the 2017 Pinot Noir vintage has a modern edge. The drought meant that the winemaking team had more control over the growth and ripening of the vineyards, helping them to produce a fresher wine.
