Waterford Chenin Blanc

R485
Waterford has been making Chenin Blanc since its establishment under the Pecan Stream label. For the last 4 years, there has been great effort to secure old vine Chenin Blanc grapes sourced from the Stellenbosch region. This enables us to make world-class wines under the Waterford label. 2018 is the maiden vintage of this wine.
Showing wonderful purity and elegance. Flavours of peach, oral honey and pithy stone fruit. Very well textured pallet with fruit complexity and creaminess.
We believe that old vines have the best advantage to accentuate the true sense of place, to express the earth and environment in which they grow. Joining forces with the Old Vine Project (OVP) we can now give recognition to such vines. The certification seal is a world first and guarantees authentic wines grown according to the OVP viticultural and winemaking guidelines

Waterford Estate has been working with Chenin Blanc grapes since 1999. Along the journey, a French winemaker from the world-famous Chenin Blanc region of the Loire valley, Cedric Lecareux, joined the Waterford team for the 2001 vintage. Here the true excitement of Chenin Blanc began for Waterford. Our Chenin Blanc grapes are sourced from Old Vines in Stellenbosch. The oldest were originally planted in 1966. To best preserve purity of fruit, berry bunches are hand-harvested in the early morning and whole bunch pressed directly to concrete eggs for natural fermentation. The concrete eggs are neutral in flavour and allow the wine to remain vibrant and to express itself fully. Old vines are not necessarily fruit forward but often bring tremendous layers and complexity to the palate.
