Visitors from all over the world have been flocking to experience our unique adventure: the Waterford Wine Drive Safari. This captivating journey offers a three-hour exploration of our picturesque estate, blending stunning landscapes with our exceptional wines and rich heritage.

Please ensure that booking and prepayment are made at least one week in advance to avoid disappointment. This experience is weather-dependent, and cancellations are accepted up to 24 hours in advance. Please confirm with the tasting room if guests under 18 will be joining, as children under 10 are not permitted. Two time slots are available daily at 10:00 and 14:00, Monday to Sunday. If using Uber, please prebook your pickup and drop-off. The Wine Drive experience accommodates a maximum of 9 guests.

A scenic tasting experience

Arrive at the tasting room for a first sip of Waterford wine and enjoy a guided cellar tour before setting off into the vineyards. Experience the historic 1988 Chardonnay Block as the first stop on the drive, home to our cherished old vines known for their exceptional quality. From here, you will tour the red wine vineyards, noting the changes in soil, altitude, and views, before enjoying a light snack platter, curated for this experience by SALT restaurant, at our picturesque Red Wine Deck. Your guide will share Waterford’s stories, leaving you with a lasting impression of the majesty that South Africa and Stellenbosch have to offer.

Indulge in wine and chocolate

Next, indulge in our renowned Wine and Chocolate experience, featuring a delightful selection of handcrafted chocolates by chocolatier Richard von Geusau, including Masala Chai Dark Chocolate, Rock Salt Dark Chocolate, and Rose Geranium Milk Chocolate. Each unique chocolate is perfectly paired with our finest wines.

"This is our third time doing the wine safari, and once again, Waterford did not disappoint! I cannot recommend this experience enough, but be sure to go there hungry and with enough time to fully enjoy the experience, which lasts about 3+ hours. You get to sample a wonderful variety of their wines in different settings around the estate. The settings are beautiful, and the wines are fantastic. All the staff are friendly and helpful, even when we contacted them from the UK. "What an outstanding experience! Waterford is clearly producing some exceptional wines - there's no doubt about that! Seeing the process and the inner workings of true artistry in winemaking was fascinating, especially for someone like me who knows very little about it. However, the highlight was the vineyard tour in the Land Rover! Our guide was beyond superb: knowledgeable, and professional, and he struck the perfect balance between giving us space and inviting us back to try the endless Waterford creations. Can I book this drive privately?

Yes, you can. Please contact the Tasting Room to enquire about booking a private experience.

Can I bring children?

We kindly ask that you inform us if any minors will be joining your party when making a booking so that we can make the necessary arrangements. However, please be aware that children under the age of 10 are not permitted on the Wine Drive Safari Experience.

Can we do a shorter version of the experience?

Only the 17:00 time slot for the summer months can be made into a shorter experience. Unfortunately, the 10:00 and 14:00 time slots cannot be amended.

How many people can go on the Wine Drive Safari?

There is an absolute maximum of 10 seats available for this experience.

How long is it?

The Wine Drive Safari is a three-hour experience.

Is it necessary to book?

Yes, it is necessary to make a booking at least one week in advance. Please note that all bookings are subject to weather conditions. We offer two slots for the Wine Drive Safari: 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, available from Monday to Sunday. If you have a booking for the 2:00 PM slot, we recommend scheduling an Uber for your departure to ensure timely pickup. From 1 November to 30 April 2025, we’re introducing the Sundowner Wine Drive, a two-hour experience at our Red Wine Deck. Starting at 17:00, this experience includes a scenic drive to our Cabernet block, a shared light platter for two, and a tasting of four exceptional wines.

Is it available year-round?

Yes, the Wine Drive Safari is available year-round, but it is entirely weather-dependent during the rainy winter months.
